Last night, I attended one of the six international book launch of “Stories Of Place: ///Zinc.Level.Blindfold. Edited by Niamh McAnally”. This book of incredible short stories by nine different authors on three continents incorporates the concept of W3W into “Stories Of Place”, already the winner of a Literary Titan Award. The book takes W3W to pop culture and shows how wonderful creative synergy can influence every aspect of life. “Where did this story take place?” How did the location influence the tone & style of writing?” “What other imaginative vehicles for W3W will come into popular use. While I’ve just recently learned about W3W, I’m excited about the app and all of its interesting potential uses across a wide variety of outlets. “Stories Of Place” just happens to be the first one I’ve come across.
Previously I had given the app 1 star but then I realized the widget interfered with the app giving perpetual annoying gps accuracy messages. Took out widget, app works fine now. Widget is totally useless.
I just tried to open the app and find that it won’t. It flashes quick and immediately quits back to my Home Screen. I was about to open it to screenshot and tell a local fire dept about it since we just had a lost person with a diabetic crisis who couldn’t tell them where he was because he is not from our country. They used gps via his phone pinging but using this app would have been faster. Can’t use it if it doesn’t open.
When I first heard of these guys 10 years ago I couldn’t figure out who would use such a system. It is a closed system, the terms and conditions expressly forbid downloading and storing any of their giant look-up-table, so to use it you have to have an Internet connection and a smartphone with GPS. It takes your location info, shares it with What3Words and their investors, determines which 3 words apply to your GPS derived Lat/Lon. You can share those 3 words with someone, but for them to make use of them, they must download the What3Words app as well so that — wait for it—> it can convert the three words back into lat/lon coordinates and put them into Apple Maps or Google Maps which them uses GPS to navigate to the lat/lon corresponding to the three word pair. So … why would so many investors pour money into an app that, after 10 years, is still hemorrhaging millions of dollars a year? Because their entire product is simply a man-in-the-middle spyware to which people agree to hand over their location information willingly. As for “ease of use” - I tested What3Words in Welsh, which works well in a very, very small piece of the world. If I’m on holiday and try to give emergency services three Welsh words, I guarantee nobody will find me.
Excelente aplicación
It’s always questionable when you can’t use an app without having an account; specially a navigation app!
Gulf of Mexico is mislabeled
Love this app! Makes most sense ever
Had this app for a few years now, haven’t been able to open app for a couple months. It’s frustrating
It’s a very different app. I like it!
This app is amazing it just has a lot more capability than another platform it has an all time watch on you and it moves with you. PS gooooood job
I don’t really understand the point of this all when anyone can just drop a pin at their location or navigate to someone else’s pin.
Sadly, the camera mode, which I otherwise absolutely love, does not remember your label settings between launches. This makes it very awkward to use as I have to change those to include “nearby” every time I take a photo. Bummer.
I love what3words!
I want to give a big thank you on the production and release of this app. It has helped me from being stranded on the side of the highway to being lost in the woods 10 miles out in a snow storm. I couldn’t have made it out without some help from friends and family who helped me get through those tough times. All within a share of my location from this app. I recommend anyone who’s a hard traveler or hiker to talk to reliable family or friends to get this app in case you end up from a relaxing situation to a stressful one. Location pins are fairly accurate. I’d say within 10-30 foot radius estimated.
This takes the error out of long numerical identifiers
Would be nice if this could pinpoint location of family members. Maybe not continuously but at increments.
Out standing
So when I went on a hike I got lost and I used what3words and it works so well it's a must for everyone
I literally just downloaded this app like 3 minutes ago and I just started exploring and I’m already amazed I bet this could save you life. So cool.
Perfect
Very easy and accurate It could be crucial if emergency services are needed
When I got the app, I started to sign up. It took my name my email address then when I went to sign up in a language, there is no English there is no American. There is no United States. There is no language languages that are dedicated to English. Every time I try to contactApple to report an issue they sent me right back to the developers website and it’s located within the app, which I cannot open. there’s something wrong with this website. And there’s something wrong with Apple what I can’t even report an issue to them without going to the developers website and you can only get there within the app. I’m waiting for developers response to this review. I will change my review when I get a response. Meanwhile the app is off my phone.
I have been using this app locally but really fell in love with it when I traveled overseas. Works like a charm and allows for the much sought after privacy in today's world. Once you start using this app you will never go back to the “old” maps!
This is one of the most brilliant ideas for application ever (easy to remember and to share three words address with navigation without internet) and implemented nicely. 🫶
I’m so excited about What3Words. I think it’s ingenious (obviously) and I hope it gets the attention it needs so it will be used by many millions of people.
Totally unique and useful app. Who knows what you’ll find or where you’ll go.
So easy to navigate
This is really amazing I can’t believe how smart simple and easy is this!!
Crashes as soon as it tries to open.
Just Getting Started With This New App… But So Far So Good… 👍🏾
I am blown away by this technology. Useful and fascinating! Thanks!
Excellent so far
Unmatched for noting where you’ve been and where you want to go.
I did not know what to expect, but this is ingenious. It covers for when you don’t have GPS but know the address.
Stumbled across this by accident and it was an amazing lifesaving tool!
I don’t really like writing reviews, but I think other users need to know about this app. It should be more popular. Genius concept. Love it !!!
3 world coordinates; genius! I look forward to the development of this app! 👀🦒🦒🦒 — @JILLYFL — IG X — @JILLIANBADWAY 👑🦒💋
District Attorney Told Me to Remember These: eggs.confident.after This application is the coolest game to me. It reminds me of something you can combine Arma knowledge with to craft a war. I love it! Thanks again!
I think this is a wonderful idea and it’s well executed in the app. A concern I have is for elevation. What if someone is stranded in a skyscraper? The app tells us where they are on a landscape, but not what elevation they’re on. Elevation can be a huge deal. I’m wondering how that could be addressed with this method. Thanks.
What an amazing idea and tool just the lives that could be saved by this app is mind blowing. The accuracy is playing with my mind in a good way
Amazing, easy to use and very accurate
most likely to get searchlighted
I will re rate after I’ve played with it a bit
I heard about 3 words a few years ago and I love this concept for outdoor safety and navigation. Super helpful and just realized there is an app - that is a me problem. The concept is great and usefulness is even better. Download today and share with your friends and family.
When I was a teen 70 years ago, I tried to calculate the amount of physical space the average person took up. I arrived at 10 feet. But I didn’t go further. Three words did and does! It’s a time saver and a life saver. What a remarkable technology and look how far it has come since it was first imagined. Everyone should use it. Enough said.
Exact location finding and sharing; zero downsides
This should become a standard in navigation. My Land Rover already has this built in to the navigation system and I expect it will continue to grow. The developers should be nominated for a Noble Peace Prize for this invention!
This app and concept of a grid overlay makes perfect logical sense and eliminates duplicate/triplicate conventional address's. I need to use it a bit more for navigation and directions before adding that fifth star.
